Allright, saturday was the day to repeat last year's 6 hour offroad racing, this time with more proper bent:

In short, results are here (in Finnish, sorry), and lap times here.

Little bit of history and last year's feelings enter fully suspended off-road bent build thread.

Weather was nice, brief wind and temps tad below 20 C. Just perfect for my Racing Ralph tires which are good only for dry conditions. Race course was briefly re-routed mostly from start and finish, and was exactly 8 km long.

First lap was escorted, I joined to fast racer pack and had no problems stay with them, except some minor mistakes in technically tough places which dropped me little behind and thus rode with two national level women MTB heros first two laps which were my fastest.

Ride went generally well, I learned to deal those tough spots mostly and kept fairly constant pace. I stopped only twice in service area to fill bottles and pick more snacks. During second pit stop I noticed that rear suspension pivot is giving up, likely because of my unforgiving downhilling in two steep rocky declines (36 kph top speed !):

Which gave me kind of excuse to ride little easier final 2-3 laps. Because of this slacking I did 10 laps in 5h 36min, organizer had rule of counting only full laps up to 6 hour racing time... so with little more steam I had 11 laps in my reach. Which was exactly what those two ladies performed and was my pacing target.

As sun was shining quite low during last two laps, more mistakes and my only fall happened in ridiculous 90 degree turn... other mishaps I'm not counting falling, just stopping. With little training (2500+ km over winter) bent seems to be quite competitive especially in longer events. No comfort issues, easy to ride downhills (as top guns couldn't keep up there while passing in latest laps).

Last year top guns did 17 laps and I got 7 laps / 45 km in 4 hours. This year they did 14 laps, me 10 laps and 80 km. I'm quite happy about result and know for sure next time I'll start little easier and maintain my constant speed, avoid little mistakes and spend minimum pit time for even better result.

Here is Strava for more details of my ride.

Heh, good looking (?)... luckily didn't get captured when had those issues... which I think were partially caused by loose threadless headset, some play in rear suspension and at end of race lack of visibility through shades in direct sunlight.

It was so much fun that I'll definitely fix offroader asap and continue practicing. And maybe some tire testing is in order for adequate grip but less rolling resistance. All to contribute better results.

Awesome Mika! A true pioneer and looking good, too. No way I could keep up with pro lady mtn bikers. Let alone a six hour race. A great result. If I lived near mountain trails I would copy your design.

Thanks Mike !

Yes ladies gave me some credit as they couldn't keep my pace when dong serious downhill or climbing longer or steep inclines.

I've done some MTB races @ -90's but this time it was way more fun and I had more potential for good result. Next time with better pacing and likely little better fit will help.

WOw Mika! That is one of the coolest bents I've ever seen! A true off-road bent! Congratulations on your long ride. Now that you know what you can do, I'm sure you will go farther next time! It was almost like a long test ride for you. And it's always a nice idea to follow some ladies! I bet they thought your bike was cool!
