Does anybody know of a place to get UV resistant o-rings? Whenever I replace the ones on my sigma-sport computer with ones from places like Ace hardware they don't last very long before they crack and start to break down. The ones that come with the computers seem to last much longer.

Ed;

O-rings original design intent is to be a fluid seal. Thus they literally "Never see the light of day". Buna N, Viton (fluoroelastomer), copper, and such are chemical resistant formulations. The only formulation that immediately springs to mind as UV resistant is Viton. https://www.marcorubber.com/o-ring-material-selection-comparison.htm
Viton O-rings are identifiable as a tan color material, rather than black. They are not commonly stocked at places like Bearings, Inc.
HOWEVER! In my Real Life Real Money Making Job, I buy thousands of these things to have on hand for our Hydroform machines. If you would carefully measure the I.D., O.D., and cross section in either English or Metric, I will slip a few into an envelope and send them to you.

Thanks Garrie for your gracious offer! I figured if anybody could help it would be you. I will send you a text with the info in the next day or two provided your phone number is still the same.

I've also had the rubber o-rings on Sigma Sport computers fail. Their mounts, both the computer and the sensor, are also configured for zip ties to mount them. There are grooves and ears on them to hold on to 2.5-3mm zip ties. Zip ties make for a firm attachment and my black zip ties have worked for years.

One of my guiding philosophies is, " Give a man a fish, and he will eat for a day. Teach a man to build his own carbon fiber fishing pole, and he will leave me alone next time." Education!!

In line with this philosophy, here is the method for specifying o-ring sizes. Enjoy.

Fluoroelastomer o-rings are available on e-bay (brown or back viton) or Mc master Carr has all sizes and compounds.

Why not simply silicone? They work in all temperatures and are very resistant to aging and UV.

I know the question was about o-rings but zip ties for mounting are shown in the Sigma Sport manuals. The mounting is more secure, less likely to be bumped out of position, more UV resistant, and readily available.

Use black zip ties, natural nylon no good in UV, ozone.

I could use zip ties for some applications, but I have some Sigma Sports that I want to move from bike to bike. Easier to do that with the o-rings. I also use o-rings to to give a flexible hold on the cabling on some of my bikes. Keep them away from my feet and legs, but won't bind the cable during tight turns.

Thanks for this thread. These O-rings are also the go-to mount on my old, used-to-be-state-of-the-art Dinotte lights.
